Sun News Editorial - Hats off to the Garfield Chamber

We would like to tip our hat to the fine work being done by the Garfield Heights Chamber of Commerce. It routinely goes above and beyond the simple meet-and-greet/networking sessions that constitute the main function of some chambers and really tries to meet its members’ needs and help make them successful while maintaining a role as a positive ambassador for the community. The chamber’s recent annual awards dinner was an excellent event that brought recognition to some very fine businesses, organizations and people in the community. The Garfield-Maple Sun wishes to extend its congratulations to D-A-S Construction, the winner of the Business of the Year Award, and the subject of one of our front page features this week, as well as the other winners: New Business of the Year, Qdoba Mexican Grill; Citizen of the Year, Lorraine Marzy; Organization of the Year, Womankind Care Center and Chamber Ambassador of the Year, Pauline Ruminski. The Garfield Heights Community Development Corp. also awarded its joint award with the chamber, the Beautification Award, to Snider-Cannata, the developers of Vista Way. At the awards dinner, the chamber also unveiled its new logo and mission statement, "To promote, educate and unite the local business community." It’s a simple but direct comment on what the group is trying to do. If you’re a local business owner, you could do a lot worse than having these guys on your side. Coming up next for the chamber in April is the annual Community Business Expo, an event that is open to the general public and seeks to bring many of the members together in one place and time so people can learn more about them. It’s an excellent opportunity to get the word out about your business. For more information on the chamber, visit www.garfieldchamber.com.
